Mike Hamilton names Lane Kiffin UT's next coach

Monday, December 01 2008 @ 08:09 EST Contributed by: BloodSpite Views: 17 College FootballFrom the University of Tennessee's Athletic Director comes this announcement. I'm not as hopeful as he is. In fact I have a bad feeling we may be starting the downward spiral so often see by schools that perform what I call "coach swapping"..or changing coaches every 2 or 3 years never gaining anything but bare mediocrity, the very thing we were trying to avoid.   Either way, here's the announcement.   Dear Friends,       In early November we announced that Coach Fulmer would step down following the 2008 season. Phillip’s contributions and his legacy at Tennessee will live on for generations and it is important that we remember our history while we look to the future of the Tennessee football program.       Over the past few weeks, we have been on the road meeting with prospective coaches and talking to some of football’s most influential and knowledgeable players and coaches about the future of the Tennessee football program. Throughout this process, I have been continually reminded how great it is to be a Tennessee Vol by the outpouring of support and enthusiasm surrounding our football program.     The history of Tennessee football is made up of great coaches and players alike that have shaped what we know today and determining who would take the place among coaches like General Robert Neyland and Phillip Fulmer was not a burden I took lightly.     Tennessee Athletics is a family made up of student-athletes, managers and trainers, coaches, administrators and you our fans, all working together for a common goal - to be the best. It’s a great honor for me to introduce the 21st head football coach at the University of Tennessee, Lane Kiffin.     Lane was the youngest head coach in modern NFL history, spending the past two years with the Oakland Raiders.  Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator at Southern California under head coach Pete Carroll, where he demonstrated strong offensive prowess as an assistant from 2001-04. He was promoted to passing game coordinator in 2004 and served as offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for 2005 and 2006. USC led the nation in offense in 2005 and in both of his years as recruiting coordinator had the best recruiting classes in the nation. Those efforts helped the Trojans to back-to-back national college football championships and produced two Heisman Trophy winners -- Matt Leinart in 2004 and Reggie Bush in 2005.       I hope you will help me welcome Lane, his wife Layla and their two daughters: Landry (3) and Pressley (2) to UT.     Expect to Win! Smells like Team Spirit

Monday, December 01 2008 @ 07:52 EST Contributed by: BloodSpite Views: 19 College FootballDo you like Penn State? Do you like it enough to smell like Penn State? Yeah, I said it. A company called Masik has created a cologne that is supposed to .."capture the essence" of Penn State. The company says the unique scents are based on "school colors, campus flowers and trees" and other features. The company plans to make cologne for the University of North Carolina, and a number of other collegiate scents. I wanna see them bottle Rocky Top. Of course with the way our season has gone they may try to bottle Smokey. After a Knoxville rain. Post a comment Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Fulmers Last Game- at Tennessee

Sunday, November 30 2008 @ 09:00 EST Contributed by: BloodSpite Views: 27 College FootballI won't lie. Where ever he goes, I will have a very hard time not rooting for the man. It's been like a four-week funeral, but I'm not dead, OK? We're not going anywhere. It's been a great run and we told ourselves we're not going to be bitter. Our phone number will be the same. We're not sure what we're gonna do 100 percent, but let's count our blessings to do what we've done. --Phil Fulmer   I think what my school did was wrong. Shady even. I understand some of the fustrations, but I don't like the method, nor the bottom line reasoning as to why you would take the most winning SEC Coach, a man with a 152-52 record over all, and show him the door because he tried soemthing new....the very thing the fans have been screaming for him to do for 2 years. That being said I think last night my hero Phillip Fulmer went out with style, and with class. Joel puts it much better than I can. Hell he put it better than I did, twice. The curtain has closed. The house lights have lit. Perhaps it should not have ended this season, this game. But regardless of whether it should have ended at that time, there can be no doubt that it should have ended that way. Other people have put in their .10 cents. A man who at one point in his career told his wife not to buy the drapes because he feared for his job On Saturday as his players dressed, Fulmer walked to the grease board at the front of the locker room and writes, "Make a memory." He made so many. Stephen Durham agree's. A lot of these newby Tennessee fans and unproven administrators should admit to themselves that they've never walked in Coach Fulmer's shoes, nor are they worthy to carry Coach Fulmer's jock strap. No truer words said. Good bye Phil. You done us proud. You made me the greatest Tennessee fan alive. There was never a doubt in my mind, that every day, you gave your all, to Tennessee. I wish the same could be said the other way around.   read more (1,503 words) Post a comment Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Blahs

Sunday, November 23 2008 @ 10:20 EST Contributed by: BloodSpite Views: 73 Stories of HomeI have a hard time getting riled up about Holidays anymore. With Grandpa gone, I just don't look forward to them as I used too. I hate that my daughter will never get to sit at his knee and learn of the street to street fighting in Belfast, or the stories of his voyages across the oceans to and from America as I and my cousins did as kids. The only bright spot is Critter turns 4 the day after Thanksgiving. As for me? I get another day older, and more vividly reminded that I can't give my daughter the childhood that I had and loved. Try though I may.     Post a comment Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

New Poll - Check it out

Friday, November 21 2008 @ 12:03 EST Contributed by: Calimus Views: 84 AnnouncementI've tossed a new poll up for everyones input.  It is time for a format change here at Techography? I'm asking because while BloodSpite has done a great job of keeping content coming to the site with some help from PGS, the political and Military realm was not was this site was created for.  This is not a slam on military content, BloodSpite will be the first one to tell you that I back my countries military men and Women and come from a military family.  However, the politics can go right out the window.  I'm not 80 years old and there is more then politics to talk about in my world. The idea behind Techography was to be an info source for Technology of all kinds.  I'd personally like to get back to that.  However, I do know that we have a small readership and I not only thank you for coming to the site, but I also value your input.  Would you still come here if I change the format back?  Would you like to see some format changes?  I'm open to any and all suggestions (save for the ones where you tell me to go to hell, I can do without those). So hit the poll and don't stop and just the yes/no.  Post a comment and tell me what your thoughts and ideas are.  Everything will be taken under consideration. Fashion FireFox - apps store for your Browser

Wednesday, November 19 2008 @ 05:47 EST Contributed by: Calimus Views: 101 InternetOk, so that Apple App Store is pretty slick, but like everything in the world, it's not all free.  Well, Mozilla thinks that maybe something hsould be.  So they now haveFashion FireFox.  It's basicly an addon/app store for the FireFox browser (which Techography has adopted as it's browser of choice).  While there isn't a ton of apps on there just yet, there are a few nice ones.  So, if you are using FireFox, give the Fashion site a shot and see if there is anything that strikes your fancy. . Missouri's new Green Initiative

Wednesday, November 19 2008 @ 02:46 EST Contributed by: BloodSpite Views: 104 PoliticsFrom the office of Matt Blunt & David Sater:     JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today launched a new program to help Missouri families conserve energy and reduce their tax burden with certified home energy audits.                 “Certified home energy audits will give Missouri families reliable guidance when it comes to energy use and waste reduction, saving money on overall energy costs as well as offering another tax break,” Gov. Blunt said. “Every effort to conserve energy and make environmentally-friendly choices has a positive impact on our future. As governor, I have worked to ensure that our generation leaves Missouri’s environment in better shape for our children and grandchildren with initiatives that are good for taxpayers and our air, land and water.”                        For the first time ever Missourians can now apply for formal certification as a home energy auditor.  The certification process is the first step to providing Missouri families access to the new tax break.  The Department of Natural Resources recently finalized certification requirements and guidelines and is accepting applications from Missourians who want to be certified as energy auditors under this new program.               Certification of home energy auditors was included in the new law to help ensure that residents receive the most up-to-date advice and recommendations on ways they can reduce their energy consumption.                Missouri taxpayers who enlist the help of certified home energy auditors will be able to qualify for the deduction beginning with the 2009 tax year.  The law allows taxpayers to deduct the costs of qualified home energy audits and related recommendations from their federal adjusted gross income.               More information and application forms are available through the Department of Natural Resources, www.dnr.mo.gov/energy/residential/homeenergyaudits.htm.               The law also enacted Gov. Blunt’s Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday, pushing Missouri to the forefront of a national effort to encourage greater energy efficiency. Missouri is just the fourth state after Florida, Connecticut, and Virginia to place this forward-looking legislation into statute.  The holiday will start on April 19th and end on April 25th. All sales of Energy-Star washers and dryers, water heaters, trash compactors, dishwashers, conventional ovens, ranges, stoves, air conditioners, furnaces, refrigerators and freezers, up to $1500, will be exempt from state sales tax between April 19th and April 25th.               Gov. Blunt has been instrumental in identifying and employing the use of alternative energy sources in Missouri. Last year the governor announced a partnership to create renewable energy and heat using byproducts from the Jefferson City Landfill.  Methane gas from the landfill is converted to electricity, and the heat created by conversion facilities is used to heat water for the state prison. The project uses resources that would otherwise have been wasted while at the same time producing benefits for the environment, the state, the prison and local communities. Gov. Blunt’s support for proactive solutions to save energy and protect the environment once implemented will both reduce energy use and save taxpayers nearly $16 million in energy costs.  Initiatives include a range of projects from centralizing and monitoring statewide energy consumption to changing laundry operations at prisons.               Last summer the governor signed the Green Power Initiative. The Initiative has been heralded as the most important environmental legislation passed by the state in more than a decade. It decreases pollution from energy production by encouraging an increase in the use of renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectricity, solar power, hydrogen and biomass. The legislation sets targets for utilities to meet: a four percent renewable energy target by 2012, eight percent by 2015 and 11 percent by 2020. The legislation also requires the Office of Administration to ensure that at least 70 percent of the new vehicles purchased for the state fleet are flex fuel and allows municipal landfills to accept yard waste in order to create bio-reactors which produce methane gas for use in energy production.               Missouri is home to the only state building in the nation with a platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
