Donio To Speak At
December 16 CDSA Summit
NARM President Jim Donio is set to speak at the
Content Delivery & Storage Association's (CDSA) Media
Market Intelligence Summit that will be held December 15-16 in
New York City. In an interview with Mediware columnist Larry Jaffee,
Donio will share his views on the current retail environment and how he
believes his members can weather the current economic storm. He will
also provide an update on NARM's latest
initiatives regarding the physical, digital and mobile
marketplaces.

NARM Confirmed To Sponsor Record Store Day
NARM has confirmed it will sponsor Record
Store Day, April 18, 2009, for which planning has already begun. The
sponsorship will help the organizers prepare for the targeted event in
April ’09 as well as continue to keep promoting Record Store Day
and the unique culture of indie record stores all year long, in the
media and on www.recordstoreday.com.
"NARM is so pleased to be sponsoring Record
Store Day 2009," said President Jim Donio. "The extraordinarily
successful debut of Record Store Day in 2008 served to perfectly
underscore how vibrant and vital record stores are to communities and
economies around the world. NARM hopes that its support will enable

Event organizers include the Music Monitor
Network, the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS), Alliance of

April 2008 marked the first Record Store Day
event to great success with over 300 stores participating, not only
stateside, but overseas as well. Paul McCartney, Norah Jones, Henry
Rollins, Shelby Lynne, Tech N9ne, Raheem DeVaughn and scores of other
artists and music industry luminaries all offered votes of confidence to
Record Store Day which spiked revenue for indie retailers and inspired
coverage in such media outlets as National Public Radio, the New York
Times, Rolling Stone, the BBC, and even American Idol. In addition,
retailers hosted in-store appearances and performances by both top name
and local artists, including Metallica (who started it all with the
announcement of the Record Store Day vinyl re-issue of some of their
classic albums, along with an in-store signing session), Panic At The
Disco, Dresden Dolls, Regina Spektor, Steve Earle, and Billy
Bragg.

Exciting New Convention Programming To Focus
On Physical, Digital, Mobile Marketplaces; Live Musical Showcases
Planned In San Diego’s Gaslamp District
NARM is pleased to announce the first preliminary
schedule for the 2009 Convention to be held Sunday, June 7,
through Wednesday, June 10, at the San Diego Marriott. As the industry
continues to evolve and expand, so does the NARM program. Digital NARM
will be melded into the overall Convention with programming that will
focus on physical, digital and mobile marketplaces. Sessions will
highlight what makes these delivery mechanisms unique as well as the
cross-platforms opportunities now emerging.
Here are some exciting schedule elements being
planned:
NARM@Night
These live musical showcases will utilize
the clubs in San Diego’s exciting Gaslamp District and will be
open to Convention attendees as well as the public. More information
will be coming your way as the concept continues to develop. If you have
ideas or acts that you would like to feature as part of NARM@Night,

Connection Central
This area within the main programming space will
be set aside for meetings, networking and product demonstrations. It
will house sponsored pavilions and include daily breakfasts and lunches.
Wi-fi connections will be available for attendees.
Indie Programming
NARM is working with both the independent
retail and label communities to provide indie-focused programming for
companies that are new to the Convention as well as our seasoned
independent membership.
