Snider - Peace Queer
Fans of rock 'n' roll, folk, country and Americana music have long been held in Snider's sway. His last album, 2006's 'The Devil You Know', landed him on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With David Letterman, and appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists. The overtly political 'Peace Queer' takes a bit of a left turn for the outspoken Snider, beginning with the cover photo, which depicts Snider being held at gunpoint by a shirtless hippie. "Clearly, anyone who looks at the photograph can tell that I had been abducted by an international league of peace queers and forced to write protest music. You know, for their cause," says Snider.
The eight tracks on 'Peace Queer' include a Civil War sea shanty, a plaintive cover of the classic "Fortunate Son," a spoken-word number, a rocket-fueled meditation on contemporary culture ("Stuck On The Corner"), and a Fred Sanford-ish funeral dirge. The emotional centerpiece of the album is the wistful "Ponce Of The Flaming Peace Queer."

Jason Beek, the Shakers' drummer, assembled the group in 2005 after hearing about a similar project from a friend in New Mexico. The idea was to find like-minded musicians who shared a passion for the sort of old time gospel music performed by the likes of country legends Hank Williams and The Carter Family. Other influences included
hill- country bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell, Jessie Mae Hemphill and gospel greats like Rev Charlie Jackson, Rev Louis Overstreet, The Staple Singers and many more. Beek assembled a fine group of Boston area roots musicians for the gig: Americana gem Eilen Jewell, Bluegrass cat Daniel Fram, America's bass player Johnny Sciascia and veteran violinist Daniel Kellar.

A Tribute to Son House. Rory Block was 15 years old when she met Son House. Two improbable people. A young teenaged Greenwich Village guitar prodigy and an older black man, 62, who had recorded nine of the most powerful blues pieces ever for the Paramount label in 1930. Now, more than 40 years later, the guitarist has paid Son House an ultimate tribute: A collection of 13 songs associated with the legendary blues singer titled “Blues Walkin Like A Man.” The album is being released on Stony Plain, the international roots music label based in Edmonton, Alberta. Rory Block’s life-long involvement with the blues has reached a new high point with this release.

Brown - The Best Of... The Niney Years
Since recording his debut album for Studio One (1971’s If I Follow My Heart) when he was just a teenager, Dennis Brown was one of reggae’s most consistent hit-makers and stayed popular with Jamaican audiences during every phase of his long career. He enjoyed worldwide commercial success with 1979’s “Money In My Pocket” a UK top 20 hit and was therefore able to start his own label and in 1981 was signed to A&M Records. During the mid ‘70s, he and producer Niney The Observer made some of the best music of their respective careers together. This album collects those collaborations and adds tracks from the two 90s reunion.In 1999, Dennis Brown’s career was cut short when he died of a collapsed lung. He was 42 years old.Guests include U Roy, I Roy and Ranking Buckers. The vinyl version is a disc 2 set with gatefold packaging and it includes two extended bonus mixes.

Dub Specialist is a pseudonymn for Clement Dodd (1932 – 2004) when he performed in the role of dub mixing engineer. And like 2006’s Dub Specialist – Version Dread, Dub is a collection of Clement Dodd – produced dub sides, take from original singles released during the ‘60s and ‘70s on Dodd’s Studio One and affiliated labels. The singles from which these dubs are made are all identified in the notes, but they include artists and groups the Heptones, Horace Andy, Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson etc. Originally released in 1995 as Dub Specialist – 17 Dub Shots From Studio One, this is a reissue. The track list is updated with one substitution – “Still Version” replaces “Beam Sound” and one additional track, “Dub Me Girl” The two disc vinyl edition includes two more tracks, “Heptones Gonna Fight/Hail Don D” and Crab Walking Extended.
