After having worked for several years as project leader and deputy department head in an industrial biomedical contract research laboratory in Cologne, she joined the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA as Visiting Fellow of the Fogarty-Foundation. At the NCI she worked on cancer-causing viruses. After returning from the USA she joined the Chemotherapeutical Research Institute, Frankfurt/Main as a group leader and developed a diagnostic assay for the AIDS virus HIV.In her present position at the Juelich Research Center, her scientific work concentrates on the use of ion beams for tumor therapy (see "Ion Beams in Tumor Therapy", U. Linz (ed.), Chapman & Hall, ISBN 3826100638). A focal point of her studies is the treatment of malignant gliomas.As an expert and scientific advisor she has consulted to the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, Switzerland, and to the Federal Ministry of Research and Education, Bonn, Germany.Since 2005, business and private clients can take advantage of her broad expertise. As the director of Linz-MediConsult she provides biomedical consultancy services to business partners active in the medical field.
