East Haven Windfarm has made available
its Vermont Public Service Board Filings.
East Haven Windfarm is proposing to install four state-of-the-art
wind turbines on the summit ridge of East Mountain in East
Haven, Vermont – about thirty miles north of St. Johnsbury,
Vermont.
More than seven miles from the nearest permanent habitation,
these wind turbines will gracefully harness the wind to produce
up to six megawatts of clean, emission-free power beginning
in the fall of 2006.
The East Mountain Demonstration Project will supply about
a third of the Village of Lyndonville Electric Department’s
energy needs – enough to power about 3,000 average Vermont
homes – at below market rates.
Following the East Mountain Demonstration Project, East Haven Windfarm hopes to expand the contribution of wind power to the Northeast Kingdom's energy needs with additional projects nearby. In the summer of 2005, we plan to install meteorological towers to measure the wind resource at three sites in the towns East Haven, Ferdinand and Brighton. If the wind proves to be adequate at these sites, East Haven Windfarm will be able to move forward with proposals for wind energy development on several private parcels.
Wind
energy is the fastest growing new source of power in the world.
This is due to the fact that wind power is not only cost competitive
with conventionally generated electricity (such as that produced
by burning coal, oil, natural gas, or nuclear chain reactions),
it is also clean and renewable.
In a time when our demand for electricity causes the release
of billions of tons of pollutants per year – negatively
affecting human health and the health of our environment –
it seems sensible that Vermont join the many other states
across America investing in wind power.
