Gene and Larry are CMX pilots from Cle Elum Washington. Like a lot of CMX pilots they call occasionally to see what we are up to at CMX headquarters. Needless to say they knew all about the CMX TURBO ROCKET project. We decided to invite them to come on one of our test and tune sessions in Cooke City to see this monster in real life and to take her for a little blast across the snow and up the mountain. The date was set: July 9th. This would be our latest snowmobile ride ever on snow. We had been to Cooke a couple of weeks earlier and we were fairly confident that there would still be enough snow to get a decent ride in. Well we were right! We unloaded on the snow about _ of a mile from the top of Daisy Pass. We had a great test session; our final clutch calibration tweak was right on the money and our “TUNE WITH ATTITUDE” tuning box makes meeting the fuel requirements of the turbo a piece of cake. You can add or subtract fuel at bottom, mid range, full throttle and BOOST mode. We were amazed at how fun and easy it is to tune a sled with this piggy-back box. The bonus is you don’t need any tools and best of all you don’t have to get gas on your hands. We also had our new “CMX ROCKET”, our naturally aspirated Electronic Fuel Injected Polaris 800 powered unit with us. We had been making performance gains on it all spring and we had one last calibration change to verify. It was a home run. We were very impressed with the performance and electric motor smooth power delivery of this great combination.
The best part about this story is the part about watching an 85 year old kid (Gene) riding both new sleds, but especially the CMX TURBO ROCKET. I think he rode that sled more than I did that day. It was a blast watching him blaze up the mountain with just the back 1 foot of the track on the snow. While visiting, I spent most of my time trying to convince Gene that he didn’t need a CMX TURBO ROCKET, but with each pass up the mountain he was showing all of us that he could put it to work just fine. I told him that upgrading to the new naturally aspirated CMX ROCKET would do the job just fine. By the way you will see Gene’s current CMX on the Classified Page for sale so he can get a new CMX. We will see which one he decides on.
