July 2008 - ScS has been sold to Sun European Partners for an undisclosed sum.The furniture retailer's holding company was put into administration before the trading business was acquired by Parlour Product Holding, a wholly owned subsidiary of the European adviser to US private investment firm Sun Capital Partners. Mark Firmin and Richard Fleming of KPMG have been appointed as joint administrators.
July 2008 - ProCook has gone into administration. KPMG Restructuring has been appointed as administrator for the 39-store chain. Joint administrators are Richard Hill and Joff Pope.
July 2008 - HMV Group profits, before tax and exceptional items, up 25.2 per cent, from £45.2 million to £56.6 million for the year to April 26. Total group sales increased 11.3 per cent, with like-for-like sales up 7.3 per cent. Like-for-like sales at HMV UK & Ireland rose 11.4 per cent. Like-for-like sales at Waterstone's climbed 3.3 per cent. Sales of games and technology helped lift the group's sales and accounted for 21 per cent of HMV UK & Ireland's sales. July 2008 - Sports Direct has had a 51.1 per cent slump in full-year underlying pre-tax profits to £85 million. Group revenues in the 52 weeks to April 27 fell 6.5 per cent to £1.26 billion, driven by a fall in UK retail sales, which dropped 10.5 per cent to £957.7 million. Group margins were down 70 per cent to 43.6 per cent. The retailer added a net 42 stores in the UK to its store portfolio including a further 50 Sports Direct stores in the UK operating under the Sportsdirect.com fascia. It plans to open an additional 20 stores in the UK this year. At the year end, it operated 375 stores in the UK. Internationally, it opened 39 stores in Belgium, 14 in Slovenia, four in Holland and one in Luxembourg.
