Question: What's a good Toronto restaurant for a party of 10 to go to?
A friend and I are graduating from university this October and our families might go have dinner together afterwards.
What's a good restaurant in downtown Toronto we could all go to? We're looking for a place with nice atmosphere, decent prices (similar to Red Lobster pricing maybe), and a menu with good variety (e.g. grill, seafood, pasta).
Pickle Barrel Grand would be great for its variety, but I've been there far too many times already. If you can suggest a restaurant similar to the Pickle Barrel that would be great!
Answer: If you want something similarly priced, with a large menu and a unique atmosphere, I suggest Richtree in the BCE Centre. You can reserve your own European-themed room (they're all gorgeous) or just get tables inside.
Basically, when you arrive, each person is given a swipe card. Instead of ordering food, you walk around to different stations - from seafood to omelettes to grilled steaks to fruit salads to imported beer to Chinese stir fry to desserts to fresh bread - whatever you can imagine.
Then you order what you want, and the cute uniformed chef at the station makes it on the spot, puts it on your plate, and charges it to your card. You do this for the whole meal, and at the end, you give your cards to a cashier who rings them up and you pay.
Basically, it's a restaurant styled like a beautiful European marketplace. It looks really pretty inside. Apparently there's even a summer patio right now.

Again, I suggest the BCE location because it's the nicest. My friends and I ended up there randomly once - party of 6 - and it was awesome. The service was good too, and the food was quick (and we stuffed our faces!).

I am looking for a Japanese restaurant in Toronto, Canada, where you sit in the traditional screened rooms and you have to remove your shoes and sit on the floor to eat your meal.
I have found a lot of private screened rooms, but you don't sit on the floor. Your feet go under the table that is recessed into the ground.
Answer: you could look into HIRO Sushi. I'm not sure if they have the whole works, but they are definitely the best in town for some upscale eating. HIRO used to be on Church, now has upgraded to King Street.
He is the owner/chef. Always was a large feed and wonderful time.

We live in Mid West Toronto - St. Claire and Dufferin but are new to the area and need some recommendations.
Answer: Marcellos is near the south-east corner of St. Clair and Dufferin. Their food is good and their prices are reasonable for the quality. They're pretty popular though, so it might be tough to get a reservation for New Year's.
There's another place on Bloor (just east of Royal York Road) called Big Papas. Their food is really good too, and the portions are pretty big. The restaurant is very close to Royal York station if you want to take the subway.

Answer: I am a former chef and "Yes" the CN Tower is nice, and Canoe at the TD Center on the 55th floor is great view of the city, if you looking for ncie hotel in that area, the Strathcona on York St is nice and runs for around $100 a night, and may have a package deal for you on NYE.
There are bars and lounges in both venues, but there are a number on Front St and in the Entertaiment district in the Spadina and King to Univerisity area.

Answer: My wife and I have been taking our friends to Sushi Island for about a year now and everyone loves it. They have excellent sushi, nice atmosphere and a great location (nice bars/lounges nearby).
The all you can eat is really good! Check it out if you get a chance.

Question: What do you think of this idea of a restaurant/lounge in Toronto?
We're thinking of leasing something in the university area. Around 6000 - 8000 sq/feet. It'll cater to the 21+ group. The decor will be very modern (black tables, beige sofas, and chairs, light coloured walls), bathrooms will be very tasteful, both ladies and mens room will have sofas, etc.
Lunch and dinner; food will be European with Asian infusion, tables can easily be removed and provide more space once the dinner crowd is gone. Capacity will be around 100. Music will be on the mellow side, neo soul, certain hip hop, and raggae, jazz, and some rock depending on the crowd and mood.
Answer: It sounds trendy, but its all about location.
I think your idea is good, but you need to find the right place for your type of clientele.
I would suggest Yorkville, Bay & Queen, Yonge & Eglinton or city center drive in Mississauga. That is where i see your type of patrons. You need clients with a bit of money who will pay for your type of ambiance.

As a kid growing up in TO, going to switzers used to be our treat after a day of shopping with our parents. I live in the states now, and when I come to visit in Toronto, would like to take my husband to this restaurant especially for the steamed knishes. Is there any other restaurants in Toronto that prepare knishes like Switzers did or does?
